Job Summary: The Cutter Operator is responsible for setting up, configuring, operating and trimming all finishing services for press and digital print projects in compliance with job specifications and company quality standards. Prepares the workload schedule to meet customer timeframe requirements as instructed by the Bindery Supervisor. Performs daily/weekly/monthly maintenance on the machine to ensure optimum output. Works closely with other staff members to exceed customer satisfaction and service expectations.

Responsibilities and Duties:
General and Administrative
Coordinate with the Production Team, Bindery Supervisor, Team Lead to produce and prioritize jobs and, when necessary, reorganize to meet deadline changes and updates
Comply with all OHSA safety requirements and Company’s health and safety policies
Participate as a key player in the Production Team by supporting operations as needed
Communicate effectively with the Bindery Supervisor, other members of the Production Team and Production Coordinator informing and updating them regularly to meet customer’s requirements
Follow systems and procedures outlined in the Corporate Policy Manual
Cutting Operations
Perform bindery cutting functions as noted on work order/job tickets
Operate equipment / machine to finish orders
Assist in, train on and perform all bindery functions as noted on work order/job tickets including: folding, cutting, padding, trimming/cutting, collating, scoring, perforating, drilling, stitching, stapling, bundling and Primarily cutting but may include other finishing tasks as assigned depending on workload
Process handwork assembly according to specifications
Clean and disinfect workstation
Retrieve the correct work order and load the skid into the jogger
Align the stacked printed job into the cutter guide and prepare to cut by activating it
Examine the stacked printed job for imperfections and adjust accordingly
Package jobs, complete work orders, tickets, and delivery receipts as necessary and placed in their assigned areas
Record and maintain work/job information onto an activity sheet for tracking purposes
Perform quality controls on the assigned machine/ equipment
Troubleshoot breakdowns, conduct minor repairs, and perform routine maintenance
Control and adjust machine settings when required
Maintain knowledge of safety equipment
Responsible for cleaning and machine setup of assigned equipment/machine
Troubleshoot any issues that may arise and/or report to Bindery Supervisor/Team Lead
Notify Bindery Supervisor and/or Team Lead of any quantity or quality issues
Ensure that the area and the machine is kept in a clean, safe and orderly manner
Other duties as assigned
Equipment and Supplies
Clean and maintain equipment and work area following maintenance procedures and update maintenance logs
Monitor and manage inventory of bindery supplies; order and stock as instructed by the Bindery supervisor
Inform supervisor of machine/equipment problems
Qualifications:
High school diploma/GED with experience or vocational/technical certification
Previous print knowledge/experience is an asset
Previous experience in operating machinery is an asset
Strong interpersonal skills g. working well with others, communication, positive attitude
Basic computer skills
Good written, verbal and mathematical skills
Good Attention to detail and hand eye coordination
Able to work independently and as a member of the team
Able to apply written instructions to machine set-up and maintenance
Reliable attendance, punctuality and attention to workstation
Meet or exceed minimum test results as specified by the hiring manage
Working Conditions:
Standing for prolonged periods of time – up to 8 hours or more per day
Frequent lifting of objects up to 50 lbs
Frequent pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, and twisting is required
Work area may have fluorescent lighting and air conditioning
Noise level is usually moderate to loud
Exposure to ink and chemical fumes, and airborne particles such as paper dust and drying powder
Appearance at all times must represent the company image
Fast-paced environment: subject to numerous schedule and priority changes and short notice activity
Additional hours may be required due to operational requirements
