Our client based in Oshawa Ontario, is a high-quality commercial printing company serving the Canadian and US markets, providing design, print, and finishing services. The company leverages its digital and offset technologies as well as its wide range of in-house finishing capabilities and is recognized for its diverse product portfolio and fast turnaround times, supported by a highly client-centric staff.  To support growth, we are currently looking for a motivated Print Estimator to join the team, reporting to the Director of Operations.

Print Estimator – Summary

This is a full-time, advanced Print Estimator position that will be responsible for producing accurate and timely job cost estimates for all aspects of the clients’ projects. As such the Print Estimator plays an active role with the sales and operation teams to clearly understand the clients’ specifications and relevant solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain and continuously acquire detailed knowledge of all production equipment and procedures throughout the company
Clearly understand the client’s project specification and obtain clarification when required
Determine the sequence of production steps for each project
Determine cost of materials and availability
Determine costs of in-house production steps according to internal ‘Rates and Standards’
Determine costs of services and/or materials from outside suppliers and sub-contractors
Assist the Sales Department by suggesting alternative specifications and methods to improve the final product and/or cost structure
Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships
Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the different substrates used in our production processes
Work as part of the team and perform other duties as required and participate in continuous improvement efforts

Qualifications

A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar estimating role in the printing industry
Thorough knowledge of production equipment and procedures in pre-press, print (digital and offset, both web and sheetfed), finishing, kitting, fulfillment, and distribution
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
Strong analytical and mathematical mindset
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Excellent organizational and time management and communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office, main focus on Excel
Familiar with the use of MIS/ERP systems
Skilled in working in a team environment and able to professionally deal with time and stress constraints
