Our client, based in Oshawa Ontario, is a high-quality commercial printing company serving the Canadian and US markets, providing design, print, and finishing services. To support growth, we are currently looking for a motivated Web- and Sheetfed Second Press Operator to join our press operators’ team, reporting to the Director of Operations. This is an ideal position for a candidate eager and able to multitask and learn different types of equipment.
Web and Sheetfed Second Press Operator – Summary
This is a full-time, Second Press Operator position coordinating all aspects of assisting with operating the web and offset printing presses, including the Heidelberg 40” 8-Colour Perfector and the 2-Colour Harris V25 cold-set web press. At times, as the need arises, the candidate might be required to help out in the bindery department.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the First Press Operator with reviewing job orders and making the right adjustments to the press
Assist with the make-readies, including washing up, mixing inks, hanging and pulling plates, and optimizing the press for each job as required, while keeping waste of paper and supplies to a minimum
Assist with the production of the print jobs including performing continuous quality controls during the printing process (incl. colour, registration, alignment, coverage, etc.), making adjustments when needed
Be efficient at paper feeding, delivery take-off, and proper moving of printed products
Perform maintenance tasks on the presses
Assist and operate finishing equipment as required
Qualifications
A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role in the printing industry
In-depth understanding of printing technologies
Excellent attention to detail and strong troubleshooting capabilities
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, dead-line-driven environment
Ability to work with rotating shift schedules
Good knowledge of prepress and finishing
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Excellent communication skills
Excellent team player
