Student Focus: Rachel Lefebvre
My name is Rachel F. Lefebvre, I am from a small town near Montreal and currently in my second year of College. I’m studying at Ahuntsic College in Montreal in the Computer Graphics in Prepress Work program.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had my nose stuck in a book— even several at the time. I was barely 10 years old and already reading the same ones my parents did. It wasn’t long after that I started writing my own stories. Wherever I was— school, work, the bus station— it was always an opportunity to write. I am currently working on a fantasy book series. My imagination goes wild, and I’ve been able to create my own world.
I’ve been struggling with depression for the past 12 years and disappearing into other worlds has always been my sweet escape.
The journey leading me to this career isn’t the typical one where I can say I’ve always wanted to do this. The journey for me was long and hard. It was at the age of 25 that I took the decision to go back to school even knowing it would be difficult.
Two years before, I sunk deeper than I could’ve imagined. I almost wasn’t here today to tell my story. But this allowed me to take a step back and consider what I truly wanted to do with my life.
The thought of working in a publishing house had always been in the back of my mind, but I tried many paths before finally finding the right one. I’ve gone through the restoration field, pharmaceutical, and aviation industries, but none fulfilled my needs. My practical career goal is to thrive in the publishing industry. Although if I was asked about my bravest dream, it’d be to publish my own best-sellers.
Everything regarding books passionate me. From how they’re written, to the formatting, then the printing; the magical step transforming an idea, to a digital story into a physical one you can hold in your hands. Whether it’s newspapers, novels, or magazines, it’s always amazing to hold the final result in your own hands. And this is what I’d like to do once I graduate. I want to help people accomplish their wildest dream and perhaps someday, achieve mine as well.
I would like to take this opportunity to say how grateful I am for the donors and this company for their support and to already believe in me. I hope to prove them all right by thriving in the printing industry.
